What Does Your C-Suite Know?

If your CEO had to explain how Salesforce turns data into board metrics, could they?
I had a conversation recently where both the CEO and CFO were surprised by how intricate their Salesforce setup had become.
It’s a pretty familiar pattern in the Salesforce consultancy world: the technical systems evolve without proper governance, and leadership stays disconnected until reporting breaks.
Then come the “quick fixes” stacked one on top of the other, and soon enough the whole system feels held together by virtual duct tape.
This gets especially real when a CEO is getting ready to sell and suddenly needs to defend every metric in the deck.
This isn’t something that just happened overnight. It’s a compounding issue that only becomes visible to leadership when they feel the pain of faulty metrics.
Then comes the surprise and the request for external help (i.e. me 🙋).
But if you’re surprised by your own CRM, it’s probably because you haven’t opened it in a while.
So my question is: should they be? And for my C‑suite connections, do you actually log into Salesforce yourself? How often?
