RevOps: The System Builders?

If RevOps reports to the wrong place, it usually becomes a service desk with a nicer name.
RevOps team structure matters more than people want to admit.
If the function is positioned poorly, it gets trapped in reactive work:
📊 fixing reports
patching definitions
🧹 cleaning data
🤨 absorbing every “quick ask”
Strategy is usually not found in reactivity, the team is only coping with overflow, and that is the best way to end up overworked, overextended, over... and out.
A better model is usually one where RevOps has enough visibility to shape process, not just respond to it.
Because the function is at its best when it can:
✅ standardize definitions
✅ remove unnecessary custom logic
✅ reduce friction between teams
✅ keep the system maintainable over time
In other words, RevOps should be close enough to the business to matter, but structured enough to avoid becoming the place where everything breaks.
That balance is where reliability lives.
DM me if your RevOps team is stuck in permanent firefighting mode.
