Custom does not equal better.

Custom does not equal better.

One of the hardest lessons in consulting is that "custom" is not the same as "better."

When you work in consulting long enough, you see the same trap over and over: a client wants something tailored, the team builds it, everyone feels good...

Then six months later, maintenance becomes the real bill.

That’s where my bias toward simplicity comes from, it's baked in every single one of my recommendations. Not because customization is inherently bad, it is required at times, but mainly because every custom decision creates future work.

🙁 more support,
😰 more dependency,
🤕 more edge cases,
😵 more ways to break trust in the system.

I’ve learned that the most durable value often comes from making the standard path work better, not from inventing a new one.

That lesson shows up everywhere (Salesforce, metrics, ARR tracking, CPQ, RevOps process design). It’s usually the boring answer that survives.

Book a call if you want a simpler path that stands the test of time.
