Battle of the Spreadsheets

Coming into an organization as a consultant, there’s one signal that screams “RevOps needed” louder than any dashboard - and you won’t find it in a report.

Interdepartmental conflict.

Sales, Marketing, Finance (and everyone else) using different definitions, tools, and data, then pointing fingers at each other when the numbers don’t line up.

For a long time, it was hardest to ignore Sales.

They brought in the money, had the leverage, and in some orgs, one strong rep’s opinion carried more weight than an entire department.

Those cultures still exist, but with the clients I’m working with, I’m seeing a clear pattern: the more mature their RevOps function, the less internal conflict overall.

There’s less bickering over report discrepancies when workflows are clearly defined and the platforms actually talk to each other.

There are fewer tense meetings and “emergency” touchpoints when a team is dedicated to building alerts and automations that get people the right information before a fire breaks out.

And when every department feels like there’s a neutral overseer listening to their needs and enforcing shared rules, you see fewer complaints, fewer side-slack rants, and a lot less quiet resentment about “favourites.”

An empowered RevOps team helps shift organizations from being department-led to alignment-led.

They pull Product into the sales process, challenge unrealistic promises, and force trade-offs into the open instead of leaving them to chance.

The result?

Fewer internal battles, better customer outcomes, and more predictable growth.

And a much more peaceful internal culture. 🔥
